Indeed, but you usually worry more about peak to peak ripple than the
regulation of the bulk supply. Modern semiconductor rectifiers fed from
low
voltage high current transformers also have fairly low series
resistance,
compared to a thermionic rectifier fed from a 700VCT transformer, so the
regulation (as in Vaverage out vs Iload) starts out better. "

	The transformers generally have enough resistance that, if you're
loading them near their ratings, the load regulation will be large
enough that you have to be careful about dissipation in the series
regulator at intermediate loads.
