My garage only has something like a #6 feeding it. It isnt very large and I
dont think it could handle 50 amps. I already have a 40 amp breaker in
there. It would have to be a 60 or 70 to be able to work because my dads
shop consumes about 5 amps continous and up to 20 amps peak. Plus, 30 amps
is 7.2 KVA, which is a lot of power even for big coils I would think. The
arc welder I am building will be able to run off of 240 volt 30 amp service
so it is no issue. I will look at home depot for appliance cable(3 wire) in
#8 or larger soon.
