Scot,

this looks to me like a great construction idea, congratulations! Feeding 
the 'c' from both ends, as suggested by Ian Darley, is not feasible, 
because the loop would be closed that way, but it could be fed at the 
center. The idea of adding or subtracting inductance, by connecting one or 
the other end of the 'c', should however be considered, because of mutual 
inductance between the primary and the 'c' (as it's the case for the 
traditional primary tapping). Soo... feeding at the center, might just 
introduce more ambuigity about the tap point, 'cause of the + and - 
direction of adding the 'c'-lead-inductance to primary interaction.
