The larger the toroid, the more power you can pump into the system (larger
pri cap,, large pri current, etc).

A good value for most standard coils is 2.5:1 or 3:1 for toroid major dia.
to sec coilform dia (ratio).

For coils with a lot of primary energy, large cap, large xmfr current, you
can use 4:1 or 5:1 for very good performance.  This applies to PT and pole
xmfr powered systems or systems with a zillion NSTs in parallel.  Usually
250 to 1000 mA range.
