Tom,
per your pictures, you say you are tuning at the 12th turn vs the 9th turn calculated. Did you adjust your calculation (I am assuming JavaTC) for the outdoors space envelop?

I ran into environment (ceiling height) when running the same coil inside a garage and then inside a shop with a lower ceiling. It changed the tuning point noticably.

2KVA coil. Best spark so far 57".

I've originally built a coil about 9 years ago. I've used this
mailing list back then too. I have to say, this is STILL the best
resouce for Tesla information.

I do have a few questions tho. I would like to get more spark without
adding more input power.
I'm not 100% sure of this, but from what I remember:

Moving the secondary closer to the primary should increase the spark length?
Adding a second torroid would increase the spark length?

Does better ground increase the spark length? Currently using 2x4' pipes

There's one oddity with this coil. It would seem that it operates
much better with the quenching off or very low RPM than with it on at
max speed. I was under the impression that the better the quenching,
the bigger the spark.

Additionally, my sparks, while long are very faint. How can I get
shorter, "fatter" streamers?

Cheers,

Tom H.
