RE: [TCML] largest secondary coil you'd drive with an NST






I don't believe it's possible to build a classic spark gap type coil that
will exceed the efficiency of a solid state coil.  The 30% loss in high
heat, light, and UV light in a spark gap can only be beat by eliminating
the spark gap and using very large IGBT bricks for the switching
mechanism.  Also, solid state coils with IGBT switching seem to allow a
bit higher coeff of coupling thus trapping more energy into the sec coil.

If it works this well please haul it to our next fall Teslathon --- I
think a lot of guys would like to see it perform
