Tim,

I use 0.050" aluminum.  But for a larger toroid a thicker gauge should
be used.  For example if you make an 8" x 30" toroid, then you should
use 0.125" or something close to that.  It will be extremely difficult to
spin, unless you have good equipment and experience.
