Hi Paul,

I have not personally tried it but from what I've read and
heard about it, most thyratrons would lack in robustness
to handle pole pig power levels. I think Richard Hull has
some experience with using thyratrons as an SG but I re-
call him running a really small coil with his. It would seem
that nowadays, the modern IGBTs would be a better 
choice for high powered rapid switching, if you're trying to 
get away from the RSG, than a thyratron. Of course IGBTs
of this calibre don't come cheap! Just MHO.
