Re: [TCML] Transformer Wiring Question

Hey Christopher...

you have one step correct... you properly wired the primaries in paralell. To increase ( basically double) the output voltage, the secondaries need to be wired in series. Depending on what type of transformers you are trying to wire up in series will dictate the method of putting it all together. There is quite a bit of info available on this list in the archives on wiring up MOTs, though not much on wiring NSTs in series ( really not a good idea anyway).

As far as increasing the arc length, your assumption of the increased amperage is correct...

Hello, everyone,

I was wondering exactly how to wire two transformers so that their total output voltage is double that of a single unit. I've tried wiring the primaries in parallel and secondaries in parallel, but I don't know if that achieves the desired operation. The length to which I can draw the arc seems to have doubled, but I'm not sure if that is due to an increased amperage further ionizing the air and allowing the arc to travel a longer distance.

Please help.
