Re: [TCML] MMC pics

IMO,

The Radio Shack solder sucker that Bart mentions (64-2098) is THE best out there. Don't waste more of your gas money on the others.

I have been using them for... I think 25 years now. We had all the others around but they all "sucked" compared to the cheap RS one. One problem many of the others have is they are "too" powerful and kick so madly that they mess the whole delicate operation up. The only thing I would do to the RS one is the use a drop of super glue to hold the clear blue plastic top to the aluminum barrel. Those threads like to fail, but with a drop of glue it lasts forever. Also use silicon based oil "if" you ever clean them :o) Mineral oils tend to attack the o-rings. I use mine every few days and it is ten years old and still good as new...

In fact, I am right now going to desolder a bunch of stuff with mine ;)

You can just heat the joints with a soldering iron until the solder melts and then pull the parts away. Don't heat more than the strictly necessary, and be careful to not spill molten solder on you. Clean the solder from the leads with the soldering iron too. There is no need of a solder sucker for this disassembly.
Hi Antonio,

True, but if your going to solder, it's a good idea to have a solder sucker around. RadioShack here sells a little blue colored vacuum solder sucker for just under $10 U.S. About the price of 2 gallons of gas these days. I wonder how much Brazilian ethanol that would buy?

Anyway, it's not a bad little sucker, although it has a small vacuum volume. Better hand-suckers can be obtained from Mouser, Digikey, etc., but for home use, the RadioShack sucker is fine.
The Model No. is 64-2098.

Take care,
Bart
