RE: [TCML] question of construction - is metal okay at the centerofprimary?



I don't recall the specific post from Dr R, but I believe that he and others were only suggesting the use of relatively small bits of metal - nuts, screws, threaded rods, etc - within the field of the primary.  The portion of the field intercepted by such small bits of metal is inconsequential.  It would be a different story if large chunks of sheet metal were involved.
