Water also works well -- cut the tubing a couple inches longer and sweat a
cap on one and a ball valve on the other.

For small stuff, you can use Woods Metal, Bending Alloy or Bismuth. Bismuth
is being sold for use as shotgun shot (the enviro weenies are complaining
about introducing lead into the environment).

Woods Metal melts below the boiling point of water and is relatively
non-toxic.

   Not strictly to the original thread.

   Read someplace a technique of forming tubing, to avoid crushing
   kinking:
   fill it with sand: which will allow the tube to form, while
   reducing kinking/crushing.  How (or if?) to remove sand afterwards
   is left to the imagination...

    Never had occaision to try this...
