Thats a very intetesting idea, especially using a smaller static machine to provide dual polarities. I did manage to get a couple ion generators and two isolation transformers so im going to try them in series and see if it works.
ive heard you can use a potato to determine polarity any other ideas out there?

To all:
Note that you don't have to spray charge in the belts from an active
source. The same effect can be obtained by just connecting the lower
roller, insulated and made of conductive material, to a relatively
high-voltage supply, ald letting the grounded comb do the spraying. In
this way practically no current is drawn from the power supply, that can
be much simpler. All the energy comes from the movement of the belt. A
small electrostatic friction machine can be used, as a small VDG
generator using just a rubber band as belt. A small Wimshurst machine
made with CD disks can be used to provide bipolar output in this way.
