Re: [TCML] Who's got the big coil in Queens? And is it a static or rotary gap?

It never ceases to amaze me how people react to an event like this. 99% of people have NO clue when it comes to anything electricity related. Read an article in the NY Post this morning about the incident. People thought it was (in no particular order) A terrorist attack, alien invasion, Nuke attack by N Korea (REALLY?), end of the world, etc. People panicked & loaded up their cars & fled. One guy was out in front of his home brandishing a Samurai sword. After 3 seconds of video, the first thing I thought of was Con Edison. Must have sounded really great. What surprised me was that the OCR's on the 138 KV transmission lines didn't trip. Isn't a plasma arc basically a short circuit?
