Re: [TCML] VTTC MOT question

Hi Steve,

I put my PFC caps on the MOT (in between the MOT and variac). Like you are
thinking, I think, it would be a good idea to do with your 10 amp variac
also. Should see your amp draw go down also.

My Dad, just like 5 hours before just finished building a slick little box
of poly type motor run caps (which are much smaller than the traditional
oil/paper metal can types), that I put to use real quickly after I kept
tripping the breaker. He was fairly recently experimenting with a different
MOT on the bench with loose caps and alligator clip wires looking at the PF
a few days before. Got an idea to build this with 5 caps and switches and
bleeder resistors. Little did I know at the time, that I was going to
really need it. Think he knew somehow :-) I did not bother to do any
calculations with this. Just switched in one at a time while running coil
and watched the amp meter, amps dropping. Got 4 switched in currently.
Tried the 5th, but saw no improvement, so back to 4. So got one currently
for reserve if load conditions change. Again, like some other stuff, it is
set up to be shared with other things also, not dedicated to just this
coil. He is actually also building currently another box of 5 PFC caps. Had
some more of the same caps laying around.
