It's been many years since I went through the calculations btut I think that the magnifier connected to the ground and antenna would have tuned to an awkwardly low frequency and would have been inoperable.  Antonio de Q would know for sure.

He did several tests and came up with different capacitance on November
5,6,7th. The final measurement came in at 342 picofarads.

So all one would have to do make it functional (aka achieve resonance) is
to tune the tank circuit,  just like we are already doing on any normal
coil today.
