Current limiter?

Hello everyone, I have an old ceiling fan control. It has 5 tap points on a 
coil (E I  core). The core is about 2 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 1," if that's of any 
help. I wanted to know if this would have any useful current limiting 
properties. If not, would it be useful for any other application? By the 
way, this is for an MOT stack I'm attempting to build. Thanks for the help.
