I used a 3-500Z for a VTTC.  It gave a max of 17" spark, with the
plate red.  A nice tube, but I destroyed it during some crazy tests.
Sort of a zero-cutoff type, with high gain I think.  It needed fewer
grid coil turns and a lower grid resistance than usual, if I remember
correctly.
