Big Dimmer for HV Xfmr control

Hi All,

I have found a thyristor (as I see it, a large light dimmer) power 
controller. With proper RF filtering, could this be as useful to 
control my primary current as a large inductive ballast? Will its 
switching nature introduce problems into my HV output?
Rating is 220 v at 0 to 140 A!! continuous.
