It IS good wire, but it sounds like supreme over-kill to me. IMO it's not 
necessary unless you plan to run mega-power into this coil to produce steam 
to heat your lab.

I don't have a current price, but that same Belden wire in my 2000 Allied 
catalog was $35.48(US) for 180C wire and $31.72(US) for Dearborn 155C rated 
wire "Heavy-poly-thermalese class F type T2". (And Allied has never been 
known as a cheap source) allowing 40% currency conversion and 10% inflation 
for 3 years, these would be $54.64(CAN) and $48.85(CAN) respectively. I 
have used 23ga ordinary magnet wire for 3-4KVA. (eBay $6.00/lb +S&H in 2001)
