Hi,

This is not a "feedback" style circuit,  It uses a variable oscillator which
you set with a potentiometer.   You connect the primary of the flyback to
the board, as well as a supply for the primary,  and a supply for the logic.
So yes you need an external transformer for the logic section,  but the
flyback can be run from half wave rectified mains if you use 70 or so turns
on the primary.
