The diode used in a microwave's half-wave rectifier is usually from the 
HVR-1X series, which are only rated at 350 mA.  The 1N4007s have a high 
peak current, and the simulation shows about 2.4 The average current per 
diode is actually 200 mA (it's a bridge).

I may try potting the thing in a box, but first I'll try adding a few more 
turns to the primary, and the copper band parallel to the windings but 
outside the core that I've seen in commercial transformers to soak up 
leakage flux.
