Drew! What on Earth are you doing? Dunking your
hands in the brine? Your experience with SW caps
conflicts so badly with my own that I can scarcely
believe we are engaged in the same hobby. My own SW
beer bottle caps have been doing hard duty at 4.4KW
for months with zero maintenance, mess, failure, or
bother. Contrast this with my expensive 47nF Seacor
MMC which slowly burned to death in pole pig service.
However, I must say the MMC gave super performance
while it lasted.

I too read about how lossy they are, but they are also
cheap and seemingly indestructable. I'm getting 60"
streamers from my little drainpipe 4" x 20" toroid.
If I got off my rear and built a bigger toroid, I'm
sure I could exceed 70".

Messy? My bottles have about 1" of oil floating in
their necks. I did 52 bottles this way with only a
few ounces of oil. I used a funnel--no mess, no
bother, and no oil on my hands. Again, I can't figure
out why it is getting so messy for you. If motor oil
bugs you so much, use drug store mineral oil. It
doesn't stain and it cleans up with a damp rag.

Unless you can find them surplus or in a cheap bulk
buy (as I did) on this list, you're going to shuck out
some serious bucks for high quality polypropylene &
foil pulse caps. Since you're on a tight schedule, it
sounds like you can't afford to wait around for a
bargain. MMCs rule, but they cost plenty. Also, when
your compact, ultra-efficient MMC flames out, you'll
shed real tears. If a beer bottle punctures, who
cares? (Not that I've ever had one puncture).
