Your results will depend on how many spinning electrodes you use.  If you
happen to use the same number of electrodes as there are natural "sync
points", then you would never notice a problem.

I think you need to put one piece of tape on your rotor and view it with a
power line synchronized strobe light such as a neon bulb in a dark room.
Start the motor numerous times and see if the tape always appears to be in
the same location, or whether it syncs at several different locations.  I'll
bet Dr. Resonance knows what he is talking about.
